// How To Be Like Mary This Summer
by Kristi Smith
Do you feel stressed by the demands of life? If so, Luke 10:38-42 is the Scripture for you.
This story is a powerful, but a scary message to women. It is a vivid contrast between the actions and attitudes of two sisters. One is distracted by the demands of life while the other is ignoring the demands for time with Jesus and His words. Jesus Himself tells the busy sister “only one thing is necessary.” He and His Words are the necessary thing. Her actions were making her feel overworked and resentful, but most importantly they were keeping her from focusing on Jesus. Mary chose the better thing when she focused on Him instead of life’s demands.
From then to now the demands on women haven’t decreased. Women are so busy. Our lives are eaten up by demands on our time, talents and energy. It seems everyone expects things from us. As a girl I had no idea what womanhood actually required. Being a wife and mother means I am a housekeeper, laundress, chef, lover, personal shopper, chauffeur, tutor, nanny, nurse, professional organizer, fundraiser, administrator, accountant, fashion advisor… the list could go on forever! Combine family demands with those of a part or full-time job and there are even less hours to get the day’s work done. Trying to then meet the demands of church, schools, and charitable organizations leaves little time to relax or sleep or spend quality time with anyone, including Jesus!
Undivided Women knows the struggle of being a woman who wants to seek God, but has so many distractions. We know this summer will be busy, but we have a planned a way to give you a piece of Biblical wisdom from 30 wise women over the summer.
So, take a deep breath on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and be encouraged by Undivided Women. Each post will be from a different wise woman who will speak to your heart over that cup of coffee or maybe a glass of iced tea.
We want to jump start your moment with Jesus. We have asked thirty wise women for their best piece of advice on husbands, heirs, and homes. Each post will have Scripture, a personal story, and questions for reflection.
We hope you will join us next Monday for:
May we follow the example of Mary. Like her, schedule time in your busy summer to devote to prayer and reading the Bible. We hope to be a tool that you use and share with others this summer!
